We’re hosting our first PiDP-11 Build Workshop for a limited number of people. The workshop is geared for beginners with some experience and intermediate kit builders who would like to participate in a guided and explained assembly process. You’ll get guidance on soldering practices, assembly techniques, troubleshooting and what you’ll be able to do with your completed kit.

When and Where:

  • April 18th and 19th from 10am to 4pm
  • Interim Computer Museum (Large Systems Gallery)

What the Workshop Provides:

  • A new Obsolescence Guaranteed PiDP-11/70 kit
  • A Raspberry Pi 3B+ w/ 8GB flash card
  • A soldering station, assembly mat and all necessary tools
  • Expert guidance by museum staff

While the estimate to complete the kit is roughly 6 hours, the workshop will be paced over the course of two days with the first day focusing on soldering technique and assembling of the kit. The second day is optional, and handles any incomplete builds or troubleshooting but also covers demonstrations and how to use your PiDP-11/70.

Minimum Donation: $325 ($295 if you provide your own rPi 3B+ and flash card)

To register for the workshop, please book 10am on April 18th and 19th on https://booking.sdf.org and add “workshop” along with your membership number – Bookings for the workshop will be confirmed via e-mail. If we run out of space, don’t worry, we’ll be doing another Build Workshop in July!

Can’t make the workshop? You can build one at home for $315 or $440 assembled. (rPi 3B+ not included):
